Cheakamus Challenge

Its the big one tomorrow!

75km point to point with something rediculous like 2000m of climbing - ouch.

Last year was a hot ho tday and most riders suffered with cramp. Its looking lik eanother beautiful day tomorrow, but not quite so hot as lat year so hopefully I can ward of the devil and get another good finish result.

Just checking last years times to know what i'll be looking at.. 4hrs30min and I came across an amusing photo.

grr

Want to get involved in the race's next year.. get in touch or check out the calendar for event dates.Whistler mountain bike holidays

Busy Busy

well, its been quiet in the chalet over the last week or so. We have another week of supposed calm before the last arrivals of the season.
Calm hasn't really materialized though as there has been so much to do and catch up on.

What have we been doing I hear you ask?!

Well, in October we are set to attend the Bike Show at Excel so consequently there is all of our print media to get done including brochures, display banners and for some reason we decided to do another web site.

Our relationship with the Freeride guides has caused us to grow much closer this season and as such we are putting all of our efforts into marketing together.

We decided to create a new web site that would serve as a portal into both of our companies tours. Basically a no nonsence reference point for BC mountain biking.

Hopefully the front end of our 2 companies is where it needs to be.

I have also done a site for a company specializing in posh places to stay in Whistler over the winter months. Film stars and porn stars make up a significant portion of their clientelle I'm told.

So thats why its been quiet on here recently.

See you at the bike show!

Separated Elbow

We had our first 'on trail' injury this week with a guest separating his elbow during a fall! Ouch!

We had just started into Comfortably Numb with a plan to ride North Secret and cut out down Young Lust if it all got too much. The Young Lust descent is a beauty!

The guest fell about 3km into the trail and dislocated his elbow in a way that aparently doent happen very often.. it looked a real sight.

Anyway, it became immediately obvious that we would need to get the rider taken out of the trail as the pain he was experiencing was extreme.

The emergency services were called and had a paramedic crew and 6 firefighters with us in 45 minutes. The rider was taken out by means of a hard stretcher with a huge centrally mounted wheel and he was rolled out over a fair amount of technical trail.

A great job by the emergency services!

Thanks chaps!

Wet weekend - 2nd place

Well.. sorry about no updates... but what a wet miserable weekend!

Those solo boys are something else!

We've raced as a 5 man team for the last 3 years now scoring 2 catagory wins and a 2nd place this year.
Winning a set of Kenda tyres seemed far more valuable somehow than yet another yellow jersey that you can only wear once a year! Saying that.. at no point did we race for 2nd place as we were very much outclassed by the winners!

The weather was the worst so far and not a pleasant experience. The organisers did all they could to keep spirits up and the vollies were fantastic all weekend!

We were lucky enough to have a condo right by the camp area so after each lap we could go and get showered and a quick hot tub to get some warmth back into the body... those poor b**tards riding solo had no such luxuries and I have upmost respect for their achievements over the weekend!

Its great to see a brit coming over and giving the top guys a run for their money - Congratulations

Oh and the weather was most definately out of character for a summer in Whistler!

Its perfect blue skies again here today and temps back up in the high 20's. The sun came back literally hours after the end of the race! As they say.. 'the law of the sod'!

24 hrs of Adrenaline/Pain!

Todays the day!

Lap 1 completed in heavy rain and on slow muddy trail.

Bearbackbiking.com are fielding a 5 man team looking for a 3rd consecutive catagory win this year! Just one team member alteration from last year, Dave leaves us and is replaced by Sheldon.

The Le Mans start went ok with Jonny coming in 11th, a few passes during the course and a first lap finish of 6th was in the bag.

We'll try and keep updating this as the race continues... providing it stops raining and we can enjoy it!
