National Downhill

Crankworx has kicked off this weekend with the Tim Hortens National Downhill event.
An interesting course with a few new lines cut into the ski runs below Crank it up for a bit of added speed. From there into into Schleyer, Detroit Rock City into lower Joyride, Monkey Hands and finishing with the GLC drop.

Loonie Race #12

This weeks loonie was kindly sponsored by Snowcovers and Mike's Garage. The course started up at the top of Kadenwood so there was a pretty good warmup climb before the race itself headed up towards the microwave towers. Plenty of new trail to ride today including the fun 'See colours and puke' mixed in with the old classics like 'Babylon by bike' and of course the favoured Far and Riverside trails before a different apres at House Rock.

The guys at snowcovers put on a couple of 'race' trikes with prizes being given away to those who could complete the short loop in under 30 seconds. There were many different techinques to be seen with som eworking far better than others and many racers forgetting about prizes but simply doing all they could to beat their opposite number!

Matt Ryan and Dave Birch fought it out again this week for the cash with the rest of us falling in an orderly line behind!

So, another great course with yet another long slog South up the highway to get home.

Loonie Race #11

This weeks loonie was another Fire Department supported and sponsored ride - meaning we got to ride behind a big red fire truck with its sirens going!
This weeks course was a road ride behind the fire truck from the village fire hall down lorimer to the gravel pit, through to the West Side road, up Bob's ReBob, over the Rainbow bridge, down Whip me Snip me into lower Beaver pass, up Barts Dark into River and finally through Emerald Forest and into the finish at the gravel pit!

Great course made even better by the fact that I had my best finish of the year up in 7th place! A great confidence booster for me!

The apres was held out at the Alpine fire hall with great food laid on by the Whistler Fire rescue service and Meadow Park sports centre. The apres was fun too with push up competitions and all sorts going on an da bit of warmth on the chillly July evening provided by a gas powered burning car - cool!

Whistler and BC holiday video

That group of 10 from the UK have been busy since being home - presumably in their state of depressiveness due to not having the BC riding available in their back yards - have put together an impressive first cut of a video documenting their holiday antics.

I have to be honest.... its bloody good!

Loonie Race #10

Yes, my apologies for not having anything up about last weeks Loonie but we had training duties on the mountain bike park so didn't manage to get to the race. I did however high tail it down to Dusty's for the apres as I was hoping that there would be Pulled Pork sandwiches on offer, sadly it was chicken wings and wedges. Tasty all the same, but just not Pulled Pork!

Anyway, this weeks loonie was again down at the Riverside trails but took an unusual reverse direction through Trash which in all honesty i sa pretty fun way to ride the trail!
So, after a mass start up the Black Tusk FSR we crossed the suspension bridge into Farside and back down to the dump bridge. From there it was backwards through Trash looping back through the dump and up the Loggers lake climb, down to the bridge and all the way back to house rock along the riverside trail.

GREAT course and a pretty fun apres sponsored by Cracked Pepper, Chromag Bikes and Cross Country Connection .

This weeks Loonie was my birthday so I was happy to pull out a strong race and finish in the top 15. After a few beers at House Rock we headed home, quick change and a few more beers in the Chalet then out on the town for a few more. In all a cracking day.
